The Wagon Wheel Pumpkin Patch began when two friends fell in love with the magic of pumpkins. What started as an endeavor to grow a few plants soon grew into something bigger: the restoration of a community garden and the creation of a third space for the people of Marfa.
We're building on the legacy of the Marfans who came before us and first turned an old trailer park into the Wagon Wheel Community Garden. From that foundation, we've grown a sea of green. In our inaugural season, we planted around 15 varieties of pumpkins and gourds.
This project became something bigger than we imagined thanks to a native seed grant from Native Seeds/SEARCH, a database and collection of dryland-specific seeds. The seeds grown here are meant to travel beyond the patch, passed from neighbor to neighbor and planted again for seasons to come.
We believe a garden always has the capacity to bring people together, and that's exactly what's happening at the Wagon Wheel Community Garden. Whether you want to get your hands dirty, catch a case of pumpkin fever, or just spend time in a third space in your community, the Wagon Wheel Pumpkin Patch is here for you.
